Friday Favorites

I would't consider my design style to be very traditional, but I have always been drawn to the very traditional design of turned leg and pedestal furniture.  The look is timeless and these pieces can be added to so many non-traditional rooms.  In fact, that is my favorite way to use them, as statement pieces that stand out among the more subdued.  Like the dining room table above paired with more modern, clean lined chairs.

My only bit of advice is to add at least two turned wood pieces at a time.  Whether it is a side table and a candle holder or a dining room table and a cake stand on the side board, I think that these items need to speak to another similar item in the room.

Now, here's a bit more information about my picks:

1. Sofa - The Wexford Sofa by CR Laine is soft and cozy, yet feels lighter because of the lift it gets from the three turned legs in the front.  Formal yet relaxed.

2. Accent Table- This pewter accent table is a classic shape, with a modern twist.  It would look great in virtually any scheme.  And did I mention it's from Target, so you know the price is right.

3.  Candle Holders - These heavy turned candle holders are a Pottery Barn staple.  They come in a variety of heights and widths and look great in groups on a dining room table, mantle or fireplace hearth.

4.  Cake Stands - I love a cute cake stand, partly because I love cake, but they are also very versatile. From Cost Plus World Market, these have a wood base with a marble top and can be used to serve, store or display multiple things.

5.  Coffee Table - This piece is a show stopper!  Heavy, yet with graceful lines, this coffee table would make a beautiful hub in either a formal or more casual living space.  It actually comes in a variety of sizes and the grey stain is lovely.

6.  Entry Table - I actually have a similar piece from Pottery Barn, though it is a side table and not as rustic.  This would definitely make a pretty entry table, if you have a large entry, but it also could be a small dining table.

7.  Four Post Bed - How beautiful is this bed?!  The Quincy bed is a very whimsical version of a classic four poster.  Perfect for an adult, but great for a little girls room, too.  From Ethan Allen.

8.  Dining Table - Another great piece from Cost Plus World Market.  They always seem to have the most unique and cool dining tables around.  I also love that they don't sell dining room sets, so you pick your table and your chairs separately to create your own original look.

In addition to the unusual pewter finish of the accent table featured above, the detail of turned wood also looks great painted in more non-traditional colors.

Check out the same Ethan Allen Quincy bed featured in the 2015 HGTV Dream Home, but this time in bright aqua.  It's a fresh update for a classic silhouette.

So what do you think?  Do you have any of these classic pieces in your home?  How do they fit into your overall style?  Share your comments below and have a great weekend!
